In case you have a newborn in your life and are wondering what do you really need… Well here you go. Besides the basics, these are the things that make the newborn stage easier… According to us.
There are some things you learn the first time around with having babies. Thankfully, the next time around, we were prepared with these 6 things that make the newborn stage easier.
The second time around is so much easier it is almost unbelievable. That was the case for me anyway.
I’m not sure if it is because I was uptight and inexperienced with my oldest, or that my second baby’s personality is easier, but this time around has been a breeze. I think knowing what is important and what works for you (and what doesn’t) is a big part of it.

Here is a list of 6 things that helped make the first few months easier for us…
1. Changing Table or Pad –
With my daughter, I did not have one. I kept hearing it was one of the things that you really don’t need… We thought we would change the baby on the floor, on the bed, wherever we were. And that is what we did! But boy, is it rough on the back. This time, I purchased a used changing table with shelf and drawer underneath for $35 off of Facebook and I’m so happy that I did. I take little man back to it to change his diaper… And have everything that I need at my fingertips, and I don’t have to hunch over the bed or sit on the floor. Best $35 dollars spent ever! You can also purchase a changing pad to sit on top of a dresser. —->Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad.
2. Baby Wrap –
I must say, that overall, my favorite baby carrier is the Ergo. BUT… when the baby is too tiny to comfortably sit down in one, my best friend has been the Moby wrap. The SollyBaby and Boba wraps are also very popular. It is just a long, soft piece of fabric that, after a little bit of practice, will swaddle your babe up close to your chest very comfortably for you and for them. Mine was passed down to me by a sweet friend and still has lots of life left in it! This one is like what I have —–> Moby Wrap Original 100% Cotton Baby Carrier, Olive. And here is a good video to show you how I wrap mine —->How to Wrap a Baby in a Wrap
3. Swing –
Another handed down item for me is our swing. Y’all… a swing is where it’s at. Both of my babies have loved to swing. They found it very soothing and it has given me time to take a shower, prepare a meal or helped me get them to sleep from time to time. Ours is nice, in that it will swing front to back and also side to side. I find that when they are brand new, my babies loved to swing side toside and when they got a little older they prefered front to back. 4. Zinc Oxide Diaper Cream –
Nothing keeps baby’s bottom happy like a good, thick coat of white, zinc oxide cream. Unfortunately, most on the market are loaded with junk like fragrance (immunotoxin, irritant, organ system toxin), petroleum (organ system toxin), parabens (endocrine disruptor, immunotoxin), and talc (possible asbestos contamination, irritant). Doesn’t that sound like something you’d want to smear all over you little baby’s skin?!
My two favorite options have been my Healing, Homemade Diaper Rash Cream, and as a back up when I don’t have time to make my own, Young Living’s Diaper Rash Cream which is wonderful and smells amazing.
5. Exercise Ball –
For about the first 2 months, about the only way we could put our fella to sleep at night was by bouncing him on the ball. It was a fail-safe way to calm him down from day one. I spent many an hour bouncing away with him curled against my chest.
6. Fleece Car Seat Pouch –
If your baby is born anytime other than summer, you will get a lot of use out of this. I have used it for months with both of my babies and it is so convenient. You don’t have to mess with blankets falling off and dragging on the floor, and baby kicking them off. This is thick and warm, and zips up around them like a sleeping bag. Ours a JJ Cole, similar to this one —–>JJ Cole Jj Cole Original Bundleme, Infant Graphite
