Awesome daily kids devotions ideas and resources. Ways to create interest in the Bible and show kids the peace and truth found in God’s word.
Not Sure How to Teach Your Child About the Bible?
Daily devotions is a term that has been around for long time, that simply means to make time to connect with God by reading His word and praying each day.
Hopefully as we mature in our walk with the Lord, praying and talking with the Lord is something we do many times throughout the day. And studying His word should take precedent as well.
The only way to know what you believe and who God is, is to read His word! That is how we get to know Him and what He wants us to do.
Daily devotions have a connotation of being a little book that someone wrote, that may have a topic and a verse a day. But you don’t have to necessarily stick to that!
How Do We Get to Know God?
We should ask ourselves if we can get to know someone we spend little time with.
For followers of Christ who believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, how do we know what is right or wrong, and how do we teach our children the best way to live a life pleasing to God if we don’t teach them where to find those answers?

Isn’t it Enough to Take My Kids To Church?
Taking your kids to church is not the sole answer to these questions. Joining fellow believers for study, praise and fellowship is commanded in New Testament scripture. We are to exhort, encourage, refine and share with other true believers.
But it is not the end-all of our personal walk in the faith and our children need to see that in our behavior and habits. Sitting for a sermon is not where your walk with the Lord that week should begin and end.
Here is an interesting article including studies that indicate nearly 75% of children raised in the faith walk away from it after high school or college. We should be asking ourselves serious why questions.
I would venture to mention that many church kids grow up on Bible stories and Sunday school apple juice and graham crackers without developing for themselves a serious personal relationship with the Lord. They have to have more than church services.
How Do I Get My Child Interested in the Bible?
- Give your children something to imitate. If they don’t see and hear us studying the Bible, getting excited about it and talking with our spouse or others about our walks, likely they won’t want to pursue those things.
- Make it a normal part of everyday. A big fuss over daily devotion time does not need to be made. Just make it part of the normal daily routine. Look below for ideas on how to add God’s word into your days.
- Study together. Spend time together learning what the Bible says, reading or listening to the different stories and talking about them. The Bible is chock full of wild, crazy stories, mysterious situations, miracles, adventure stories and so much excitement! If anyone thinks the Bible is boring, they surely haven’t read much of it!
Daily Devotion Ideas for Kids
Here is a list of some of the best kids devotion resources I have used or that I can find to try in your family and how I like to use them.
Reading the Bible
Of course, reading the Bible is the best place to start with daily devotions.
- Here is the Bible we bought my 8 year old daughter to use as her own, The Adventure Bible. She really enjoys reading this herself.
- We also love the Beginners Bible for a picture storybook Bible. It is an oldie but a goodie.
The New King James version is great for kids as it is easy to understand the language and apply it. Other good translations would be ESV, and KJV.
- This Bible is often also available in a nice leather like soft cover. Our daughter has a pink one. Christian Book is a good place to look for any of these recommendations too!
Good Biblical Daily Devotions for Kids
- We are using The Bible Made Easy for Kids, and Leading Little Ones to God books currently. Also like Indescribable. Perfect for kids up to age 10 or so.
- As children get older and want to do a quiet time of their own a couple recommendations would be any of the studies over at Not Consumed, and 90 Devotions for Kids and The Learning Tree Quiet Time Book.
- The Action Bible is also very cool for older kids, I’d say 8-teen. It is made in comic format, so boys or comic lovers especially may be drawn to it. There’s also an Action Bible Devotional.
Audio Bible Time
A few great ways to utilize audio streaming for Bible study time are
- Listening to the scriptures being read to you. Different websites and apps can play the scriptures for you for free such as YouVersion Bible. You can set up a plan to listen to the whole Bible in year, 30 day plans, etc.
- Find great devotional and Bible study guides on book services such as Hoopla or Everand. I have both and like them. Hoopla is free through most library cards. Look the app up. Everand is a paid audio/ebook service that my family is obsessed with and use everyday. Try Everand here for 60 days free. Everand has soooo many options to choose from.
- Another of my FAVE options for learning about the Bible for the kids is a podcast called Truth Seekers. We listen to it during breakfast almost everyday. She has a lovely way of telling the Bible stories and concepts in a very simple way, but while NOT talking down and over simplifying. Here is the website where you can listen, and she’s also on other podcast platforms.
Fun Bible Activities
Some things to tie in with your daily Bible time with the kids:
- Hymn singing! Take an old hymnal, or praise songbook and work your way through it one song at a time. If you don’t know the song, look it up on YouTube (everything is there!) and listen to it together a few times first! I love the book Then Sings My Soul. It has a page of info about the person who wrote the song or where the inspiration came from.
- At our house, we love to play Bible trivia. We have some different sets of cards with questions about the Bible, and we take turns asking and answering. Kids really like to know answers and tell what they know, It’s a great way to encourage them to pay attention and retain information. These are a bit trickier questions, and these are good for younger kids.
- Games! The Action Bible Guess-It Game, Bible Outburst, Taboo Bible Edition.
Scripture Memory
Memorizing God’s word is such a fantastic thing we should all do!
Kids have amazing memories and ability to recall passages, it is the perfect time to help them to tuck God’s truths away in their heart. No one can ever take that from them.
- This can be done by simply picking favorite, short verses randomly, or you can use a book or list to work through so you don’t have to plan it out.
- We have been working through My ABC Bible Verses with my 8 year old. Her little 4 year old brother can memorize these pretty well too!
- Something we do to make it extra special is make a watercolor scripture card for each verse she memorizes. She copies it down onto a watercolor paper card (she traced them when she was younger), and goes over the words with a black permanent marker. Then she paints over top of the verse. Sometimes flowers or a design, other times just pretty washes of color. Then we display them for awhile in our window on a string with clothespins..
- I also will write down verses to be memorized on our big kitchen chalkboard.
Biblical Music
Another amazing way to get your kids minds filled with God’s love and truth is through music! Specifically scripture songs!
Here are some of our favorites:
- Hidden in My Heart Scripture Lullabies – These are my absolute, hands down favorites. Our kiddos go to sleep every night to these lullabies created out of God’s beautiful words to us. There are several of these albums and they are all beautiful. If you wanted to only spend money on one thing, this is my pick!
- Seeds Family Worship – There are quite a few of these different albums also, and they are fun music full of scripture. I will say that these song really stick in your head!
- Hide ‘Em in Your Heart – Now for a major throwback to my childhood! I still can sing along with these songs 25 years later! They are such sweet, sweet songs of truth and love from scripture. They also apply so well to things kids deal with, like Do to Others, When I Am Afraid, Keep Your Tongue From Evil and so many other good ones!!
All of these albums I just mentions I believe are available also on Amazon Music, which you have access to with Prime. We do like to purchase an actual cd to play for bedtime.
I also know that the Hide ‘Em in Your Heart song can be listened to on YouTube!

I have the Resources, Now What?
So, now that you know about a bunch of great books, songs, studies and resources for developing daily devotions for kids, what do you do now?
- Here is a great article by the same gal that does the wonderful Truth Seekers podcast. It is full of great ways to help your child Encounter God in the Bible.
We don’t want to just go through the motions of teaching, do we?
Our desire should be that the Holy Spirit to works in our families, speak through us and use us to help our children to experience God within the pages of His word.
We should be praying that the Lord draws our children’s hearts to Himself.
Hopefully and prayerfully, God’s word that is being taught and sown into the hearts of our kiddos will stay there, take root, and eventually blossom into a vibrant and personal relationship with Him.
Please share any of your favorite ideas for developing a habit of daily devotions for kids and Biblical resources you love.
Until next time, Dig the Good Life!
