One of the best tools in our toolboxes as parents are books! We can reach into our children’s imaginations and through bonding time with them, teach them many important concepts in a special way. Teaching them about healthy eating through wonderful children’s books is very likely to be a success, and build a lifelong desire to try new foods and nourish their bodies.
Here is a list of some of the most lovely and inspiring children’s books on healthy eating I could find!

Bread and Jam for Frances
I really love Bread and Jam for Frances. I love the descriptive language that is used to talk about all the yummy foods that Frances and her family eat through the week. And it’s really cool how the story starts with Frances not wanting anything but bread and jam, but ends with her appreciating all the good things she was offered. Yum!
Food Anatomy
You are likely to already be familiar with this book that has 3 other accompanying books about nature, ocean, and farm. I can’t tell you the amount of time both of my kids have sat together looking at all the scrumptious food illustrations on these pages! Highly reccomend the set, found ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener nofollow”>here, and ocean found ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener nofollow”>here.
What’s in the Garden?
A very cute book all about delicious garden fruits and vegetables, helping children understand where food comes from. Also includes yummy ideas for how to enjoy eating these foods!
Chelsea’s Healthy Secrets
This one is very neat, because it explains that you are what you put inside your body! It compares what you feel like when you eat lots of junk food, to how much better you can feel when you eat lots of fresh foods. Lots of interesting facts about cells, excersise, sugar, tooth decay and more.
Two Little Gardeniers
This one is darling! Check for it on Thrift Books, as it can be harder to find new. I adore the illustrations in this book, that depict the process of growing differant types of vegetables, and how they are hervested and stored for winter!
The LIttle Mouse
This is a favorite of many young children. There is something about the simple mystery of how will the mouse protect his yummy strawberry that is so fun for littles. At the end of the book, the mouse shares his strawberry with the reader, and you can almost taste it!
Too Much Junk Food
The Berenstain Bears are always so fun, and this one is no different. This book really made healthy food sound delicious and desirable to me when I was a kid! A classic!
The Vegetable Soup/The Fruit Bowl
This is a cute little book with two sides! You cna read the vegetabe side and then flip the book over and read the fruit side! Another book that teaches “you are what you eat”! Descriptions of many different types of produce in a fun, sing-song lyrical way.
Eat God’s Food
This is such a lovely book! A very thorough guide to eating foods that God designed us to be nourished by.
Eating the Alphabet
A fruit and vegetable journey from A-Z, in gorgeous, vibrant colors. Illustrated by one of my favorites, Lois Ehlert.
How Did that Get in My Lunchbox?
Where did the delicious food on your plate come from? How is the cheese made and where did the bread come from? This book helps kids connect their food to it’s origin. Many children who don’t grow up with gardens or working farms local to the may not understand how food gets to us!
