This is also a fantastic idea to use in your homeschool, or at the kids table at your holiday meal.
Something that many families take part in at this time of year, is sharing with each other what they are most thankful for.
Some go around the table, each taking a turn to describe their thanks. My family has always liked to write down our sentiments on the table. It is our own special way to remember what we have to be grateful for, and provides some very special dinner conversation.
Sharing in this way is such a good way to focus on what is really important in your home and among your family members.
Thankfulness table runner instructions:
One of the best parts about this project is that this is so quick and easy to put together and costs very little! If you already have a roll of brown craft paper, then it will cost you nothing. And it is as simple as it sounds.
First, roll out and cut the proper length of brown paper.
A standard roll of craft paper should be the perfect width to make a table runner. Lay the roll on the table and start to unroll it, cutting the length that you desire. I find that the best way to keep the paper from curling back up onto itself, is to lay it curled side down. It will usually catch under the edge of the table and stay put pretty well.

Next, decide if you want to add other decor to the center of your table.
The paper is wide enough that you can fit some nice leaves, a fresh bouquet or whatever your chosen table decor may be down the very center of the paper, and there should be plenty of room along the sides to write.
A few ideas might be: acorns, beeswax dipped autumn leaves, small and varying sizes of pumpkins and squashes, and or bunches of lavender or rosemary greenery along with some pears and apples.
The options are limitless. It doesn’t have to cost much to create a lovely and sophisticated tablescape.
In fact, I dare say the most humble offerings may be the most beautiful. Of course a scattering of small candles, or traditional taper or pillar candles will add a warm and inviting touch.

Writing on the table runner.
Before your guests and family sits down, place a selection of writing utensils about the table. You could scatter them, place one at each place setting, or display them in a mason jar or small basket.
White paint pens, chalk, black permanent markers or colored pencils could all work well.
As the host, set the example by writing your own thoughtful bit of thankfulness on the table runner. Others will follow suite!
This is a fun time to talk about what everyone is writing down.
Don’t forget to take a photo!
A great way to capture the moment and the memories is to snap a few photos of the table runner. I don’t think keeping a huge piece of used (probably greasy) craft paper is a very practical thing to do, but you’ll want to remember the time! Grabbing a picture is the easiest way to look back on it.
