Here is a simple recipe to whip up a bubbly and cleansing homemade diy bentonite clay face mask for glowing skin yourself that is natural and good for your skin!
This mask recipe does good things for my skin.
It is great for cleansing and tightening pores. Bentonite clay is known for it’s ability to draw out impurities.
Even though you can buy clay masks from the store, it is very easy to make them yourself at home.
Once you purchase the clay, it will last you a very long time and you can make many masks for yourself for just a fraction of the cost of store bought. And that way, you will know what the ingredients are that you are putting on your body, too. Win, win!
You only need two ingredients to make this mask!
Bentonite Clay and apple cider vinegar. Both of which are well known for their complexion benefits.
HERE ARE A FEW INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BENTONITE CLAY…
- Bentonite clay is harvested from volcanic ash.
- Because of it’s strong negative ionic charge, it is believed that bentonite clay acts as a sort of sponge and can absorb toxins, heavy metals and acids.
- A clay skin mask made from bentonite clay stimulates blood flow, absorbs extra oils and gunk, and helps remove dead skin cells that can clog your pores.
TIPS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU USE THE MASK
- I would suggest doing a patch test on a small area of facial skin, before doing a whole face mask. Especially if you have sensitive skin. You want to make sure the mask is not going to burn or irritate your skin.
- If you find that the mask is a bit to harsh for your skin, you may try replacing the apple cider vinegar in the recipe with plain water. This may tone it down a bit.
- FYI, this tends to leave your skin tingly and red. That goes away fairly quickly for me, but like I said, if you have sensitive skin, please test this carefully so you don’t end up burning or irritating you skin.
- The vinegar can be a bit over powering close to your nose and eyes. Be aware of that going in, especially if you are a sensitive smeller. Try the water if you can’t handle it. You will still get the amazing beneficial properties of the clay. You could also water down the vinegar for a gentler solution.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE YOUR CLAY MASK:
wooden or plastic spoon (Or mix with your finger, like I do!) *Do not use metal with bentonite clay
water (optional, if you wish to swap out the vinegar for a milder mask)
HOMEMADE DIY BENTONITE CLAY FACE MASK DIRECTIONS:
- Place a small amount of your clay powder into a small bowl. (Not metal!)
- Add just enough apple cider vinegar (or water) to make a thick paste like consistency. Add liquid slowly, and mix as you go. I like to mix with my finger, you can also use a plastic or wooden spoon if you wish, just don’t use metal. It will deactivate the ionic charge in the clay.
- Spread evenly on a clean, dry face. (Test a small patch first if you have sensitive skin.)
- Leave on as long or short as you want. I usually do about 10 minutes. The longer it stays on, the drier it becomes.
- Remove mask gently, using a warm, wet washcloth.
It is normal for skin to feel tingly and look pink after mask. This should go away shortly. (But please test a small area first if you have sensitive skin! You don’t want to end up burning or irritating your skin!)

I love how this mask makes my skin feel.
Very smooth, tightened and soft. I notice a more even tone when I use it regularly, too. I aim for about one batch a month. If I make too much, I just tuck it away in a glass container in the fridge for a few days and use it one more time.
